Service is my favorite part about the gospel. Serving a several stake and ward missions because I joined later at the end of high school and didn't get to attend seminary until I taught early morning. Serving in the Bishopric with Bishop Rick. Serving in the ward and stake Sunday school. ward and stake young men's president and elder and high priest group leader when they still had them. I got called to be a ward seventy two days before they dissolved them into the elders quorum. Primary teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher, scoutmaster and the only job I could never get was ward magazine representative.
I gained my testimony about the gospel, Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ while doing my best not to drown in the Pedernales River trapped in a hydraulic under the falls. I was under water over 5 minutes and saw the light. One was bright and beautiful but I was guided to the lesser light that turned out to be the sun. When I was baptized two weeks earlier I had asked the elders where all those people came from after I came up out of the water in the font and heard a auditable exclamation of joy from them. and they were gone when we came out for the confirmation. They quietly exclaimed they were my ancestors and had been waiting for me. Fighting my wife's cancer for 6 years before she passed I learned what it meant to literally live by blessings from our Heavenly Father daily. I was diagnosed with cancer 6 months after she passed and advanced at that. I was able to once again take this daily walk with the Savior and surrender my will to his and after 6 months they have a hard time finding what cancer is left and almost in official remission. Walking daily with Him is a lifetime commitment and a blessing to be his hands helping others do the same. Favorite scripture is Second Chronicles 20:17 "Ye shall not need to fight this Battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you...."
